Well, I was inspired to create this blog partly because of my sister's fionse, who is making a newsletter that included news about the Gulf disaster. Though I don't live close to the Gulf, I was affected by it in that my family was forced to change vacation plans to avoid the possibility of an oil-slicked beach. Such a tragedy is beyond all of our comprehension. I keep hoping that it's really not as bad as it seems and nature will correct itself, somehow wiping away this stain with its cleansing oceans. But I fear that's not the reality, and that the effects we are just beginning to witness will only fully be seen in the future.
I am not sure what to do about it, but there's always writing. Words have power, that is, if people read them. I'm not sure if they'll read this. But I just want to raise awareness, not just about the Gulf disaster, but about other things in ecology, and contrary to the melodramatic name, not just about disasters. But I'd like to bring things to people's attention, and maybe get something done, if it's only something small.
I would also like to include local things here, too. La Crosse, Wisconsin is a place burgeoning with life, teeming with nature, and I live right by the marsh, the bluffs, and the EcoPark, so I am extra aware of it. I will include updates about the EcoPark, which needs funding to continue to its next stage and include animals which will educate people about the animals that live around them.
Thank you for coming to this blog, and welcome, if you're out there! I hope we change the world.
